In 2001, the Brazilian Association of Organic Beef Cattle (ABPO) was created by a group of Pantanal cattle ranchers, which identified in the Organic Beef Certification a promising economic activity from an economic, environmental, and social perspective.
The implementation of this production alternative brings a real possibility for added value to Pantanal beef production through the improved business benefits associated with low socio and environmental impacts, maintaining the environment and its biodiversity, while preserving the sustaining the Pantanero culture.
The ABPO vision is:
“To be recognized nationally for organic meat production in the Pantanal region, fulfilling the concerned consumer’s demand for product safety, environmental sustainability and social responsibility while maintaining the pantanero culture and guarantying man’s presence in the field, improving cattle ranching production in the region”
Currently, the association is made up of 20 ranches, located in the sub-regions of Nhecolândia and Nabileque in the Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal, with an area of more than 110,000 hectares and approximately 35,000 head of cattle.
